Can false negative pregnancy test be hereditary?

To Make a long story short. I had pregnancy symptoms had some bleeding for 2 days(thought possible mc) with no real menstrual cycle but still have a negative test. Then 2 weeks later have some more symptoms, again negative test. My mother then told me she never had a positive hpt with my brother or I. I just thought I am not pregnant. Well now this information has me questioning the negative results. I have a Dr. appoint monday but am dying waiting that long.Anyone ever heard of this or experienced this?
