Could my 'male' guppy actually be female, a few things question me about 'him'?

you can tell if they are male or female by looking at the fin. if it is spread out and fan like then its a female. if it is bunched up and looks like a rod then it is a male. this is called the gonopodium. you can probably google search that to see a picture
